<lj:music>Coldplay - Sparks</lj:music>

i have to admit i picked the blazers to win the series. not the most intelligent pick, but i defend it because i figure a rough and tough team like the blazers could get inside the heads of a soft team like the kings or mavs.

up until a couple days ago i was feeling pretty stupid, but stranger things have happened.

like the mavs blowing a 30 point lead to the lakers!!!

i might be biased, but early indications show that this is definately going to be the best playoffs in a LONG time.

whats everyone's favorite playoff year? personally, all the years seem to blend together. the nuggets beating the sonics was one of the greatest things i've ever seen. most any bulls knicks series...with or with out jordan, was incredible. blazers/lakers a few years back was a true classic. it might have been the straw that broke the camel's back for the blazers, they've been fucked in the head since.

    <lj:music>Ben Folds Five - The last Polka</lj:music>

The worst opening-season gambit in the history of the NBA was presented by Roy Rubin, the spectacularly inept coach of the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers. Facing his players for the first time, Rubin presented himself as a tough disciplinarian and said he'd accept no excuses for any infractions of the rules. The players would have a strict dress code for road trips. No exceptions. There'd be no beer in the locker room. No exceptions. There'd be no smoking in the locker room. No exceptions.

Then Freddie "Mad Dog" Carter raised his hand and said, "But, coach, I've been smoking in the locker room ever since I've been in the league. That's the only way I can calm down and get ready to play."

Rubin didn't blink. "OK," he said. "You can smoke, Freddie, but you're the only one."

In a flash, the rest of the players realized that Rubin didn't have a clue.

Dubbed "Poor Roy" by the local media, Rubin was fired when the team's record sank to a dismal 4 and 47. The Sixers finished the season at 9-73, a low-water mark that will not likely be matched in the foreseeable future.

so i set my alarm at 8 am. the song i want to play in order to wake me up is "air force one" by nelly.

thats great. so come 8 am today, instead of waking me up...it produces a fairly strange dream. nelly, one of nelly's friends, and i go shopping at the mall. i assume we're at champ sports, because the dream was similar to the setting in the nelly commercial. so all 3 of us get matching st. louis rams jackets...the really big ones, red ny yankee hats, and those big timberland boots...or what ever you call them. through the entire dream, mind you, is the nelly song "air force one" in the back ground.

so now the three of us go to a club. we're keepin it real...stompin in something other than air force ones. when a couple of guys who are tryin to look tight like us (their jackets, hats and shoes looked all dingy and cheap...). and for some reason they start talkin shit to me, and tryin to beat my ass. at this point in the dream, it goes from a real life point of view...to a video game point of view, and i'm playing. nelly turns into wilt chamberlin, and his friend turns into oscar de la hoya. and they have boxing gloves on, getting ready to fight these two trouble makers.

finally, after the song has played for 40 god damned minutes straight...i wake up. i hop out of bed all pissed off cuz not only am i running late, but joe just got in the shower, and i needed my glasses so i could make a dash for the bus. joe rightfully took me to class...but i think the extra sleep and retaining such a bizzare dream were well worth being 7 minutes late to class.

High school basketball player LeBron James was declared ineligable for the remainder of the season for taking "gifts from a merchant. A $450 basketball jersey, and a $400 football jersey. He has packed gyms this year more than most pro teams, and he's one of the most reconizable basketball players right now. I was to find the ohsaa's ruling. I wrote a letter to their commish...

Congratulations. Everyone knows your name. You're the guy who let jealous, stupid people take down one of the greatest Ohio basketball players ever. An 18 year old who we are all amazed to watch, and read about, has now played his last high school game, and it really angers me. I'm sure you know more about the subject than I, but I would have to say that it would be utterly impossible for him NOT to cash in on the hype that surrounds him. For his age, I would say he's done a marvelous job at taking it all in. Yes there are rules, and you say you're going to treat him like any other Ohio high school player, but thats utterly ridiculous! He is the farthest thing from the typical high school player! There are a lot of people who are cashing in on all the money being brought in by LeBron, and if he gets a couple of jerseys out of the whole thing, who cares??

In five years it won't matter. He'll be in a league of his own when it comes to his basketball skills, and no one will remember your name. Just remember that you're doing an injustice to the entire basketball community by taking away LeBron's right to do what he does best. Play basketball. Congratulations, you took a piece of Ohio basketball that we'll never get back.

Nathan Lindsay

Basketball Fan

I doubt it'll do any good, but I just believe they would do something like this. oh well.
